Sussex County and Nationals

Mixed fortunes for our representatives at this year’s Sussex County Finals held at Pope’s Mead last weekend.

Kicking off proceedings, the Abergavenny Cup double-rink team lost narrowly to Chichester by 3 points, losing by 1 point and 2 points on the two rinks.

The lunchtime kick-off saw the Pairs match between Scott Edwards & Jack Fairhall and the Heitzman brothers, Martin & Lee, of Spartan Bowling Club. Unfortunately, the brothers were too strong for our pair on this occasion.

The showpiece final, the Singles, featued Scott Edwards against Keith Holman of Lindfield BC. We’re very pleased and proud to announce Scott’s victory by a margin of 21 to 16.

Well done to all who made it to the day, and the best of luck at Worthing.

Saturday 25th May – It was a nail biter on Saturday when we had to go away to Burgess Hill, a very strong squad indeed. Scott Edwards started us of with a good 2 Woods win, David Hubbard narrowly lost by 1 shot in the 4 wood singles which made it 1 each. Harry Beirne and Jack Fairhall were next to run out winners by about 10 shots, in the pairs, but Kevin Fairhall lost his Triples again by only 1 shot, so the game hung in the balance with the rink of Tony Ward, Rob Slater, Pat Mallet and Bob Hassell having been behind for most of the game took the lead on the 20th end picking up a 3 which gave them a 2 shot lead going into the last end. They clinched a win on the last end by 2 shots winning by 5 shots and taking us through to the next round well done to everybody..

17th May 2013  – The Top Club game at Southwick Park Bowls Club –  again it was a cold night , we got off to a good start when Tony Ward won his 2 Wood Singles game by 3 shots – this was followed by a good win for Scott Edwards in the 4 wood singles by 6 shots – while they waited for one of the other teams to win their game it was the Rink skipped by Kevin Fairhall who ran out winners by 7 shots to clinch the 3 games out of 5 needed to win the match.
