Brighton & Hove District league

Hove & Kingsway Bowling Club currently has A and B teams playing in the league and matches take place on Tuesday evenings.

They are home and away and for men only.  The teams for each match are picked by the team captains and displayed on the noticeboard adjacent to the cloakroom in the clubhouse. Players are expected to sign off to confirm their availability or otherwise inform their captain if unavailable.

The pool of players is registered with the league prior to the league commencement. New players must be registered at least 24 hours before a match in which they participate.

Report on Bill Hawkins Trophy – First Round – 2nd June 13
 
The Home team of Kevin Fairhall, Tony Ward, Dave Wall, and Ray Cluness ran out clear winners by 10 shots at home on Sunday Morning the 2nd June, a glorious sunny morning , the away squad Skipped by David Hubbard, with Dave Wiggy Wigdor , Kevin Luxford and Jack Fairhall also won by 5 shots away from home well done to both sides, a big thank you to Dave Wall and Kevin Luxford for stepping in at the last minute, good luck in the next round..

1. COMPOSITION

Every Club playing in the League will automatically have the same number of Teams entered for the Bill Hawkins cup competition as it has playing in the League, whatever Division they may be in.

Each TEAM shall be represented by

a) eight [8] players who may be substituted in different rounds. [Subject to Rule 2 [B] below].

b) except in the Final, one FOUR shall play at HOME and one FOUR on their opponents green. Each game shall consist of 21 ends, but an Extra end must be played on the Challengers green.

In the event of a tie the shots score on the extra end shall be taken into account.

2. ELIGIBILITY

a) Only registered players may be played (subject to registration Rule 10 [A] )

b) Having once played in a TEAM a player is not eligible to play for any other TEAM that season.

3. CONDITIONS

All games shall be played under BE LAWS and Brighton, Hove and District League Rules and shall be under the management of the Executive Council of the Brighton, Hove and District Bowling League.

4. DRAW

a) The first drawn Team shall be termed ‘THE CHALLENGER’ and the second Team drawn will be termed ‘THE OPPONENTS’.

b) EITHER team may offer their opponent dates to play the match.

If a date cannot be agreed by the closing date of the tie then BOTH TEAMS will be eliminated from the competition.

The extra end will be played on the CHALLENGER’s green.

NO EXTENSION OF DATES will be allowed unless the game cannot be completed due to climatic conditions whereupon they must re-arrange the game within three [3] days of the date fixed.

c) The Hon. Competitions Secretary will notify all winners of their opponents for the next round.

5. FINAL

The Final shall be played on a neutral green [to be decided by the Management Committee] on the second Sunday in September each year.

6. NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS

The winners of each round shall TELEPHONE THE RESULT WITHIN 24 HOURS of the match being played.

Both Captains shall send all signed scorecards to the Hon. Competitions Secretary within 48 hours.

7. TROPHY

The winners to receive the ‘Bill Hawkins Cup’ and the runners-up to receive the ‘Mary Craddock Cup’, to be held until 30 August of the following year.

Hove & Kingsway ‘A’ have reached the final of the Abergavenny Cup after a close-fought battle with Preston ‘A‘ BC.

Congratulations to all involved.

The final will take place on Sunday August 5th.
